A lash tech, often called a certified lash tech or lash artist, is a licensed or specially trained beauty professional who applies synthetic lashes to a client’s natural lashes to enhance their appearance. If you ask me, a lash tech is so much more. In my 6 years as a licensed lash tech, I have been a confidant, a friend, a therapist, and a safe space for my clients. I have been privileged to service over 300 lash angels, and I know they will all agree.
What Is The Role Of A Lash Tech In Applying Eyelash Extensions?
As a lash tech, you have many roles. A perk of being a lash tech is making your own schedule, but the primary responsibility is to apply eyelash extensions with precision and care. Certification signifies your ability to apply lash extensions professionally, which is crucial for career advancement. An eyelash extension certification demonstrates your proficiency and enhances job opportunities in the beauty industry. Whether you’re an early bird or prefer a later schedule, you’ll find clients that can fit into either. My day usually consists of fills and complete sets. Fills take less time than full sets. Complete sets require applying lash extensions to 90-100% of the client’s natural lashes. Lash extension training programs cover comprehensive skills beyond application, such as client consultations, lash health, and aftercare. Fills require you to lash 40% or more of the natural lashes.
Depending on the requested service, I have taken up to 8 clients per day. Having a mini consultation with all your clients at the beginning of their appointment is essential. This ensures you both have an understanding of what your client is requesting. It’s important to note that having a cosmetology or esthetician license is often a prerequisite for becoming a certified lash tech. Obtaining an esthetician or cosmetology license is crucial as it ensures you meet the state requirements to practice professionally. I have had the same clients for the past 6 years. Each appointment feels like I’m spending time with an old friend. It is essential as a lash tech to have good conversational skills. It is also important to read if your client wants to have a conversation or to relax during the appointment.
Luckily, most clients enjoy listening to true-crime podcasts just as much as I do. I checked the inventory of my lash supplies. This helps me stay fully stocked with everything I need to have a successful day. Then, I thoroughly sanitize my lash suite and prep it for the next day. Ensuring you have the proper lash certification not only enhances your credibility but also ensures you are up-to-date with the latest techniques and safety standards. Proper certification can significantly boost your lash business by covering essential skills and knowledge required in the industry.
