A lot of lash artists make one big mistake when starting out. They want clients, NOW. Anyone. Down the line, they build a full schedule of people that may not align with them or respect their work. You are not for everyone. It sounds harsh, but there is a small group of people in your area that are the perfect clients for YOU. It’s better long term to identify your target client now and cater your marketing to them so you aren’t stuck having clients you don’t love down the road. Identifying your ideal client is a crucial step for any business because it helps to streamline marketing and sales efforts and ensure that you're delivering the best possible product or service to the right people.
Analyze Current Clients if you have a few already: If you already have a customer base, look at who your best clients are. Consider: Who brings in the most business? Who do you enjoy working with? Who aligns most closely with your values and mission?
If you’re starting from scratch, ask yourself. How old is my ideal client? Where do they live? Do they have kids? Where do they work? Where do they spend their free time? What is important to them? What do they value? Why would they need their lashes done? The more specific you can get, the easier it is to find these people.
It’s okay if you need to revisit this. When I first moved states, I drew out my ideal client. She was very young, she was in a sorority, she worked at the clubs, loved getting her nails and hair done, and enjoyed travelling. I followed hundreds of who I thought were my ideal clients and quickly realized, this client avatar didn’t totally align with my business.
So…who did? I thought long and hard about who would deeply value my services. I decided that I love working with a more mature clientele. Women that wanted to feel beautiful and glam at an older age. Women that had the time and money to invest in something special for themselves year round, lashes! I knew a more mature demographic would be found on Facebook or In person. I attended events, made my presence known in local facebook groups and really pitched my referral program. My new clients really valued my services and we have lived happily ever after together.
