I believe wholeheartedly in one truth. That being a lash artist is the best job in the world, well, it certainly can be if you set yourself up for success. If you’re reading this right now, you’re already in the right place. We all have reasons why we do things. Career wise, being a lash artist is an interesting and unique choice for where we invest our time, energy and years of our life. I know from personal experience it’s easy to get lost and burned out as a full time lash artist, wondering why we tirelessly work and perfect such a niche craft. On top of that, the majority of lash artists are self employed which brings on an entirely new set of challenges and feelings of loneliness in this ever growing industry. If this sounds like you, and you’re at the beginning of your lash journey or years down the line wondering your “why”, this is a message of encouragement for you. It’s easy to feel like you are just a lash artist. Who knows the feeling when you’re around new people and someone asks “What do you do?” and you say “Oh, I do lashes!” and that dreaded wave of “is that good enough?” washes over you. We’ve all been there. But as lash artists, we know deep down we are way more than ”just a lash artist”.
Being a lash artist is not for the faint of heart. It is a deeply demanding skill that takes years of training, practice, muscle memory and time to feel confident at. On top of all this, you are working with all types of different people and serving them in a very intimate way. Here is your mindset shift. The job you get to do everyday is a rare and beautiful gift. When you take a client, you have a moment of their time, interrupted and peaceful. You are listening, speaking light into their life, touching, brushing, confidence boosting, beautifying and caring. Maybe seeing you is the highlight of their week. Maybe you are the kindest voice they’ve heard in a long time. Maybe having lashes changes the way they see themselves and they walk the world differently because of it. You will have days that are exhausting. You will have days where you want to throw your tweezers at the wall. You will have no shows. Bad Reviews. Cancellations. You will doubt yourself. I’m here to tell you to KEEP GOING. It gets easier. This job takes a lot of practice and dedication. It is 100% worth it. There are incredible clients out there waiting to find YOU, there are going to be days that feel like a dream and there are going to be moments where your artistry makes you really, really proud. Those days make all the hard days worth it. I believe in you, I am excited for you and I know you will do amazing things. Learning how to do lashes was the best thing I’ve ever done. It has built me a career and a life that I love and I want you to experience that as well. I am here for you every step of your lash journey.
