What Goes into Creating Lash Adhesive?

I was so relieved to launch our two new adhesives today. Before I started our brand, I had no idea the investment of time, money, and the amount of frustration it would take to put out custom liquids. Safe liquids. Effective liquids. It’s a whole different ballgame than lashes or tweezers; liquids are very complicated and take at least a year to customize and develop. Our bonder, cleanser, and primer took a year and a HALF from start to finish!

So what do brand owners actually have to do when creating a liquid product like an adhesive or a cleanser?

We collect TONS of data! We determine our product goals, assess whether this would be beneficial to our target audience, and identify the unique value these products will bring to the lash world. Since launching a product like this is extremely expensive and time-consuming, we need to ensure that a large number of people will want it. Understanding the main ingredients and the role of each component in eyelash glue is crucial for product development, as it impacts safety, performance, and client satisfaction.

We Find & Vet Manufacturers and Labs! This is a long process, and we have made relationships with all our labs IRL! Did you know our bonder, cleanser, and primer are all formulated and produced here in Arizona? Our adhesives are manufactured in a state-of-the-art laboratory in South Korea. Our favorite place to visit!

Then we start on Product Development – this is the meat and potatoes of creating a product. Testing and improving formulas, even simple formulas, can take 6-9 months. For all our liquids, it can’t just be me testing things out, so I send blank samples to 1-200 artists to get their honest reports too! It takes a village! Each round of testing can take months. During product development, we test for low fumes and oil resistance to ensure client comfort and long-lasting results. Patch tests are essential to identify potential allergic reactions, especially when developing sensitive adhesives for clients with allergies or sensitivities.

We always review the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for each batch to ensure ingredient transparency and safety. Our lash extension adhesives use cyanoacrylate monomers, which have a unique curing property that provides a strong bond and fast-drying glue. Some professional lash adhesives include methyl methacrylate and alkoxy cyanoacrylate, which offer enhanced durability and suitability for sensitive eyes. We avoid harsh chemicals and natural rubber to reduce the risk of latex allergies and comply with regulatory concerns. Stabilizers are added to maintain shelf life and preserve adhesive performance over time. Choosing the right adhesive and right eyelash glue is vital for different application techniques and client needs. The glue dot plays a key role in the application process, interacting with humidity during curing to ensure optimal bonding. Lash companies must comply with cosmetic product regulations and ingredient restrictions to ensure safety. Our lash glues and lash extension glues are formulated to blend seamlessly with natural lashes and help achieve the desired look for every client. Applying extensions with adhesives that are applied correctly is crucial to ensure a strong bond and prevent retention issues. We carefully select different cyanoacrylate types to control drying time, fumes, and sensitivity. Sensitive adhesives that emit fewer fumes are important for clients with sensitive eyes. Clear adhesive is ideal for clients seeking a natural finish or who have sensitivities to pigments. Understanding ingredients in eyelash adhesives and eyelash glue ingredients helps us avoid commonly found allergens and ensure client safety. The chemical reaction during curing directly affects the adhesive's performance and retention. Fast-drying glue is essential for efficient application and the best retention results.

Testing & Compliance

Because we sell our liquids all over the world, we have to comply to strict international safety, stability, and regulatory testing. So no matter where you lash, you won’t get in trouble for using our products.

Packaging Decisions, my favorite part. We design functional packaging that’s as eco friendly ad possible, we source bottles, lids, accessories and design the unique branding. My little sister does our packaging design actually!

Labeling & Legal Requirements

We have to add the ingredient list, warnings, directions, and compliance info to each of our products.

Minimum Order & Production Run. We plan out how much inventory we will need and approve pre-production samples to place our first bulk orders. When you are creating a custom product (something that isn’t white labeled) this can often be an order of 10-20k units to start off!

Quality Control

We inspect the first shipments carefully and test random samples for consistency.

Warehousing

We have to add more room to our current warehousing as new launches can take up a LOT of space.

Marketing & Education

I personally spend months creating launch content, including podcasts, tutorials, and customer education materials. We also focus on educating clients and lash artists so they feel confident in their knowledge of lash extension adhesives and application techniques.

This is all worth it because I want lash artists to like what they use, so I’m happy to put in the time it takes to create products that exceed standards. We received a significant amount of feedback on what modern lash artists want most, and overwhelmingly, it was a clear, pigment-free version of our current adhesive and a faster, thinner adhesive.

I can’t thank you enough for your love, support, and patience as we grow our collection & brand. It’s a dream come true to create things that real people love.
